Background

With the increasing severity of climate change and the frequent occurrence of natural disasters, particularly in the complex and disaster-prone geographical region along the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), disaster emergency response and scientific data sharing have become crucial. CPEC not only bears significant responsibility in terms of economic cooperation between the two countries but also requires close collaboration in resource and environmental management as well as disaster prevention. Sharing scientific data and leveraging advanced information and emergency response technologies will greatly enhance the capacity and speed of disaster response, minimizing the negative impacts of disasters on society, economy, and the environment.

Against this backdrop, this training workshop will bring together experts and scholars from China, Pakistan, and other B&R member countries/regions, and related fields to explore how to establish an efficient data-sharing mechanism. Through the analysis and utilization of scientific data, the workshop aims to improve the accuracy and timeliness of disaster emergency responses.

Under the sponsorship of the China-Pakistan Joint Research Center on Earth Sciences (aka., CPJRC) and the Developing Satellite Emergency-Response System and Using for Typical Major Natural Hazards Project, a 5-day Training Workshop on Resource & Environment Scientific Data Sharing and Disaster Emergency Response along CPEC will be held in Islamabad, Pakistan at the end of August 2025.

Objective

• To provide theoretical and practical skills related to scientific data sharing, including policies and standards, technical methods, software platforms, and data management, and to promote technical exchanges on data sharing.

• To enhance the disaster prevention and mitigation capabilities along CPEC, sharing key technologies and case demonstrations in areas such as disaster emergency remote sensing monitoring, disaster damage assessment, and disaster risk assessment.

• To share capabilities and practices in disaster prevention and mitigation knowledge services within open science, and to promote the establishment of a data-sharing and disaster emergency service cooperation network along CPEC.
